Bars Have Better Food

Posted byciliphoraon 6/4/2008

I went here during the 2-for-1 season (maybe my first mistake) in the mud season (possibly the second). Numerous people highly recommended this fabulous restaurant. Still trying to figure that one out. The prime rib had absolutely no taste. The horse raddish sauce was ranch with a smidge of horse raddish. The crab was old. I will say however the atmosphere, wine selection and bread were all wonderfull. Unless you like over paying for less than adequate food I would not recommend this place. I would recommend it for a nice after work glass of wine. Thank goodness I did not pay full price or I would have had to stiff the waiter for things out of his control.

Best Atmosphere! Fantastic Cuisine!

The Hearthstone is set off Main Street in an old Victorian home that has been converted into a quaint restaurant. The atmosphere is lovely and romantic and the food is out of this world. Their martinis are amazing and the wine selection is bar none. The appetizers and entrees are quite varied and offer many choices for the finicky palate. I started with the succulent Crispy Lobster, proceeded by the Colorado Corn soup and and finished with the wonderful Ginger Sea Scallops. The range of tastes were beyond compare. My husband and I finished the evening with the Triple Chocolate Decadence Cake. We recommend this restaurant to everyone, especially those looking for a quiet date night. Moreover, there were no children present which is a *huge* plus for us. Totally top notch!

Best place for romantic dinner

Perfect place for romantic dinner or special occasion. We found it by accident - walked on the street and noticed very nice building which looked like a restaurant. We were right! Very interesting menu - elk, duck, venison together with old well known etries such as steaks and fish. All entries have special touch of the place - dressings, side dishes - nothing usual. Very original appetizers as well including foie gras. They also have 3 course menue + wine pairing for fixed price ($45 per person, if I remember correctly) Excellent service and very nice view out of 2nd floor windows. Reservation recommended after 8pm. we were lucky to get in without reservation, but it was early enough. Good wine selection. The place is not cheap - $100-150 for couple including bottle of wine but it worth every penny.

Romantic evening in a crowded room

We went to Hearthstone this summer, after a rough couple of days together. I was hopeful if we got all dressed up, and went to what was supposedly Breckenridge's "most romantic place" we would be able to get back on track with each other. While the food was superb, and the wine list great, Hearthstone is certainly NOT romantic. We were wearing moderately dressy clothes, and were easily the most dressed people there--I was taken aback by the kind of noisy bar atmosphere on the first floor, and the "blue jeans and t-shirts" most folks had on. I KNOW this is Summit COunty, but isn't there ANYWHERE that people care about how they look? However, the food was absolutely WONDERFUL, and the service attentive but not overwhelming. The other thing that was very appealing was the fair price--I am used to paying MUCH higher prices in Summit for this level of food. I suppose in the end, what made this place special for us, was the location in Breckendridge, and the cozy feel of the victorian house setting.
